Absract. At the base of economic growth is the ability to create knowledge that can turn into a real economic result. This determines the great importance of scientific research and innovation for the prosperity and sustainable development of every economy. This focuses on technological transfer from science (knowledge producers) to business (knowledge users) and the implementation of innovation in practice. The purpose of the publication is to draw attention to the existing centers within the higher education institutions designed to mediate these processes. The analysis focuses on the case study of the University of Plovdiv “Paisii Hilendarski” and research institute and the activities of the centers of technological transfer, excellence and competencies formed.
