Absract. The author discusses the emergence and meaning of ideas as a goal and destination of any empirical quantity, and as bearers of ontological completeness. The theses of various philosophers who have considered the idea as a concept are shown. A transition is made to the understanding of the term today, as well as to the attempts for using the ideal for the purposes of various contemporary ideologies. The way in which the ideal has been represented in music and the visual arts is indicated.
