Abstract. Reasonings related to the justification of the need to rethink the education of statistics are presented, in which the formation of statistical thinking should be a priority and it should be perceived as a mandatory element of the thought process of a free and informed person.
Main reasons for the stenciling of statistics education in both school and higher education have been identified, not only hindering the creation of knowledge and skills necessary for the formation of statistical thinking, but also stimulating the deepening of the problem of numerical blindness in society.
