Abstract. Scotland witnessed an intellectual fl owering in the 18th century that generated a large number of important philosophical works. These works attracted interest across Europe, most notably in Germany and France, where many of them were translated within a short time of their publication. This interest endured for well over half a century, until the Idealism of Kant and Hegel discredited and displaced it.

HELLMAN ON THE PRIMACY OF BASE OVER SUPERSTRUCTURE IN HISTORICAL MATERIALISM
Erdinç Sayan
Middle East Technical University – Turkey
Abstract. Geoffrey Hellman made one of the rare attempts stating a central historical – materialist claim known as the thesis of the “causal primacy of the base over the superstructure” with precision and in a way that would allow empirical testing of that thesis. To explicate that thesis, he introduces two principles which seem intended to complement each other. I explain and critically examine Hellman’s two principles and question whether they do justice to the historical facts, and moreover, whether the second principle can be said to be true to the content of the historical materialist primacy thesis.

Sofia University
Abstract..

MEANING AND SENSE OF THE CONCEPT REDUCTION IN EDMUND HUSSERL’S IDEAS
Abstract. The article analyses a couple of chapters from Ideas by Edmund Husserl. Great attention is given to the concept reduction, which is pivotal for the design of phenomenology. The analysis uses another work of Husserl for а context – Logical Investigations. The main point is to show a certain usage of the reduction; for it is the basic method through which phenomenology will try to claim philosophical authenticity. Reduction is also the distinctive moment between the philosophy as phenomenology and all other (private) sciences.

Boris Borisov
Sofia University
Abstract..

THE RELATION ONTOLOGY – TRANSCENDENTALISM IN HEIDEGGER’S PHILOSOPHY
Abstract. The fundamental ontology is a key direction in the contemporary philosophy, which is a specific sequel of the philosophy of subjectivity. The interpretation of Heidegger’s conception in the spirit of Kant’s and Husserl’s transcendentalism shows that the author of ‘’Being and time’’ views the being in the context of the idea of consciousness. The concept of time here is of great importance, for it is connected by Heidegger with the being, respectively with the consciousness. The main conclusion is that Dasein in Heidegger’s philosophy is a specific modification of the transcendental interpreted concept of I.

FOUCAULT’S REPRESENTATION OF WORDS AND THINGS
Carlos A. Garduño
Comparán National Council of Science and Technology – Mexico
Abstract. This text analyzes Michel Foucault’s developments on the relationship of representation between things and words in The Order of Things. Particular- ly, it focuses on his notion of representation presented in the preface of the book and in the chapter on Velázquez’s Las Meninas, as well as in what Foucault identifies as the evolution of the notion in Classical Modern age and in Contemporary forms of analysis. From such an examination, it is concluded why, for Foucault, “man” lacks representation in human sciences.

Dr. Silviya Kristeva

Abstract..

THE CHAIN OF GENUS AND SPECIES ON THE SIDE OF THE UNCONDITIONED
Abstract. Constructing the subordination by genus and species gives its own problematic aspects in the theory of Traditional logic. The present article is dedicated to the building up of the chain of genus and species in its completeness and offers an interesting result, which is derived from concrete chains of different concepts. In Traditional logic, the logical validity of the lower limit on the side of species is commonly accepted – this is the singular concept. But could any logical validity of the upper limitation be found and where the generalization of the chain expands to? Answering these questions necessitates the consideration of Kant’s model of constructing the subordination by genus and species. Kant introduces the unconditioned as ultimate limitation of the supreme genus, genus summum, and also as solid limit and beginning of every developed subordination by genus and species. Then the dividing of the very genus summum will result in superior generic concepts, which will be the essential object-functional concepts – the necessary bases for accumulation of attributes and thus for constructing objects in thought and knowledge.

PEACEFUL CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION IN CULTURE FOR MAKING PEACE(S): A PHILOSOPHICAL STUDY OF ITS DISCURSIVE RESOURCES
Sonia París
Albert Universitat Jaume I – Spain
Abstract. In this paper Culture for making Peace(s) is studied as an alternative to cultural violence taking into account that peaceful confl ict transformation will be purposed both as an appropriated methodology to resolve confl icts by peaceful means and also, as a consequence, a favorable peace building methodology. However, it is important to mention that, in this essay, the study of the methodology of peaceful confl ict transformation will be based on its communication resources in order to emphasize the relevance of the communication in confl ict transformation processes. In this sense, it could be stated that forms of communication have to be carefully thought if we would like them to be nonviolent acts, a recognition of the other, cooperating and peace building. The analysis of the communicative resources in the framework of peaceful confl ict transformation will be done in these pages from Peace Studies, nevertheless, without forgetting the relevant, and more than necessary, contributions from the philosophical thinking. For example, the research by Habermas, Austin, Arendt and Lederach will be quoted here in order to support the thesis of this article and to show alternative ways of human relations not based on the use of violence.

RETHINKING POLITICS AND CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION FROM A GENDER PERSPECTIVE
Irene Comins
Mingol Universitat Jaume I – Spain
Abstract. The legacy of women on Caregiving practices can help us to resignify the way we understand power and the way that confl icts can be transformed. The ethic of care has been approached by peace researchers, who have analyzed its potential not only in the private sphere, but also its implications for the public sphere and for peace-building. In recent years we have witnessed the emergence of new concepts such as caring citizenship or politicization of care, which shows the potential of care ethics to transform and enrich politics with new insights. This article will discuss the different contributions of the ethics of care to peaceful confl ict transformation.
